Praise for this book

I received a complimentary copy of this novella as part of the SFINCS2 competition. My review is honest and my opinions are my own. 8.5/10

To Trick a Trickster tells the story of what might happen if Loki, Norse god of mischief, were to answer the forlorn and desperate prayers of Psyche, a human character from Greek mythology. It is a tale of love, dysfunctional family, uncaring gods and monsters. There is also plenty of lore and mythology included in this short novella. I enjoyed the detailed characterisation of both Loki and Psyche and the inclusion of other characters from the Norse and Greek pantheons.

“…she’d never imagined a god like Loki even had a family never mind that it might comprise a giant wolf for a son and a half-dead girl with an attitude for a daughter.”

There is an ethereal, dreamlike quality to Imaginário’s writing which allows the reader to immerse themself in the worlds she builds, without questioning any of the fantastical events which occur. I would recommend this story to anyone who enjoys mythology and love stories between gods and mortals.
